Staying Sane

Shakira "Waka Waka" drumming down my headphones is exactly my top tip on staying positive. Pick your favourite songs and dance. I promise you will feel better. Yes it is embarrassing if the boss walks in just as the beat drops but the kids will love it!!

Most people are feeling a "little" deflated with the lockdown and it feels like the world is NEVER going back to normal. Home schooling is either taking up all the time of your day so that you have no time to do any of your own work or it could be adding a little structure to your day. Whatever your situation is it will get better, schools open on Monday (having a little dance party in my head, then I remember it is Easter Holidays in 3 weeks)! I have a few tips to try and stay sane and look after your mental health. Your positive vibe will rub off on others - including the kids.

Tip 1 - as it says above put your fav song on and dance, trust me the cheesier the song the better!!

Tip 2 - get up early, set an alarm to a nice noise of birds tweeting or a calm song that you love. Not that annoying "BEEP BEEP" that is enough to annoy anyone! You are more productive in the morning.

Tip 3 - write down 5 things you are grateful for every morning - these can be so simple. "I am thankful for the Colin the caterpillar my boss treats me to as its goes down lovely with my afternoon cup of tea." Ps get the kids to do this too. It can be really useful for them to appreciate the small things in life at the minute. If they are too young to write them down maybe they can just tell you.

Tip 4 - Go for a walk. Being a nanny or a mum can be a lonely job and we sometimes do not speak to another adult all day. Which is harder at the minute with no toddler groups and activities on. Yes, we probably do not stop talking to the children all day about animal noises, nursery rhymes and dinosaurs but it is important to include adult conversation into your day so that you can moan about pretending to be a dog for 3 hours of the day. Going for a walk with another nanny or a friend will allow you to have a chat and also get some fresh air which is great for the children too. If the weather is really bad - give them a call.

Tip 5 - Drink water!!! I need to take me own advice here. I am still working on it. You will feel less fatigued.

I could go on all day, there are LOTS more tips on how to stay positive but I will save them for another long train journey.
